First introduced in 1995 by Gary Craig, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is rapidly gaining attention in the areas
of alternative medicine and psychology. Practitioners of EFT have applied it's use in an effort to bring relief
to just about every emotional or physical condition imaginable and often claim dramatically positive results.
This
therapeutic method is actually derived from the meridian-based emotional clearing system, "TFT" (Thought Field Therapy)
developed by Dr. Roger Callahan. Craig had trained under Dr. Callahan in 1991 and quickly saw the positive results
that resulted through the application of TFT. Eventually he developed his own streamlined and altered technique
he called "EFT" and put together a simple and inexpensive educational system to spread the word about EFT
and make it obtainable to the masses primarily via the internet.
The EFT theory is that emotional blockages
cause imbalances in the subtle energy currents within the body which lead to emotional and physical discomfort or illness.
The application of the EFT technique is thought to release those blockages, allowing energies to properly flow and promote
healing and wholeness. While many of it's practitioners subscribe to this theory others believe EFT to simply be
a method of combining the power of suggestion to a physical focus factor (tapping at sensitive points) to accomplish a type
of waking hypnosis. Indeed many EFT practitioners are hypnotherapists and psychologists experienced in hypnotic induction.
EFT is simple and inexpensive to learn and involves no drugs, supplements, or invasive measures. The
technique involves tapping by fingertip various points in the body while having the recipient of therapy verbally repeat acceptance
and healing phrases either aloud or silently to themselves.
